About Certified Microplastic-Free
Why the certification exists and how the organization operates.
Why this certification exists
Certified Microplastic-Free was created to give manufacturers and consumers a clear, practical way to address microplastic exposure in everyday products.
We focus on products where contact pathways matter, such as food-contact, beverage, personal care, and medical-adjacent products.
What we do
- Define criteria for when a product can be marketed as microplastic-free within our standard.
- Review manufacturer documentation against those criteria.
- License the Certified Microplastic-Free seal to products that meet the standard.
How we operate
We work as an independent certification program. Our reviews are documentation based and focus on materials, contact surfaces, and realistic use.
We are building the standard in collaboration with manufacturers and technical experts through an initial pilot program.
Scientific oversight
Our internal review framework is led by a Scientific Director with a PhD in chemistry. Every certification decision is documented and archived so that future reviews apply the standard consistently.
How the standard evolves
The standard is expected to change as more data and real-world experience become available. Revisions will be published on this site with a clear transition timeline for affected products.
