What the seal means

The Certified Microplastic-Free™ seal tells shoppers that a product's exposed surfaces, the parts that touch skin, mouths, food, or beverages, have been independently reviewed and found free of plastics and other microplastic-forming materials. Certification is granted only after a review of the product's bill of materials, supplier documentation, and manufacturing details against a published standard.

Many brands describe their products as plastic free. Very few can point to independent verification of that claim. Our microplastic-free certification closes that gap with a criteria-based review, a written determination, and a trademark license agreement that governs exactly how the seal may be used.

Scope of review

What we review

  • Materials and composition

A complete bill of materials for every exposed component, evaluated against the published criteria.

  • Supplier documentation

Specifications and attestations from the supply chain that support each material claim.

  • Manufacturing and change control

How the product is made, and how material or supplier changes must be reported to us.

  • Ongoing compliance

Annual renewal confirms that materials, suppliers, and processes remain consistent with certification.
